Room 8 Watergate Street Navan

Room 8 Watergate Street Navan

With rave reviews we sent our features reporter Rachel McInerney to Room 8 on Watergate Street Navan to see what all the fuss was about. Here is what she found!

Date Night. When you come from a big city and live in a small town like Navan, finding somewhere to go and things to do can be a challenge, especially when tasked with entertaining a visitor. Things get increasingly trickier when your guest is a “picky” eater. The pressure was on, where to go that would deliver a Saturday night we would talk about for weeks?

Room 8 was like an ace in my hand of playing cards, having been to the restaurant twice previously I was more than confident that it would deliver, and it did! On a new January diet, I had been fantasizing about their hot and spicy chicken wings during the days leading up to Saturday night and I inhaled them when they arrived to our cosy window table. Typically we are a tough table to please, but my partner gave the nod of approval on his bowl of soup that wasn’t his usual vegetable, proving me right about Room 8’s varied and exciting soup menu.   Having begun a weight loss journey, picking Room 8 was an easy decision as the menu, while tasting incredible, consists of healthy food options. I tucked into the chicken supreme for the main course accompanied with sweet potato fries and devoured my food without an ounce of guilt.

The restaurant is very professionally run and accommodating. There is a choice of vegan options on the menu, the Thai red curry receiving compliments on their Facebook reviews. Manager Geraldine Nelson is approachable and adds that personal touch by getting to know the names of her valued customers. Proprietor and Chef Aidan Cosgrave has created a busy little spot in the center of Navan town, earning his restaurant a well deserved nomination in The Irish Restaurant Awards. Having been nominated last year as well, Room 8 consistently delivers a winning formula for success. Being a foodie myself I would make the trip to town just for the warm sticky toffee pudding on cheat day.

Nominated for the Meath style awards 2017, Room 8’s ambiance and decor appealed to me since my first visit in November for Navan Daily PRSS Christmas party . With soft furnishings in cosy corners, candles burning, fresh lilies and a fabulous leopard print wallpaper I felt right at home, So much so that I may have been subliminally influenced by Room 8’s style on a recent choice of leopard print runners.

It’s rare that I’m 100% satisfied when I eat out, but this restaurant never fails to impress from beginning to end while always remaining very affordable at the end of the night. Open six days a week, you can book your next dining experience on (046) 9027663 or visit their Facebook page for opening hours.
