Here’s a quick roundup of some of the latest community news for Navan and County Meath.

CORE Meath, a Navan community group, have just launched their first newsletter which is a very informative and brightly coloured summary of CORE’s activity in the county.

CORE Meath is a community based volunteer-led social initiative based in Navan, helping to resolve the problem of isolation within the community.

CORE acts as a hub that connects with and provides services to the community, local charities and worthwhile causes. They do this by focusing on individual projects that will help to restore a real sense of solidarity, bringing people and organisations together to address issues like mental health community development, poverty and social inclusion.

CORE is for the benefit of volunteers as much as for the person who is receiving help, in that we can all sometimes forget about ourselves and our own problems as we set about our tasks in a practical way. This approach is good for our own mental health as well as the client receiving assistance.

Nourish Food Project

The Nourish Food Project involves volunteers collecting non-perishable foods from the public through schools, clubs, businesses and other organisations in the Navan area. Supermarkets also contribute through a national organisation called Food Cloud. The food is packed into parcels in Claremont Stadium and distributed to families in the Navan area.

At present “Nourish” distributes food parcels to 45 families every week.

If you would like to donate non-perishable goods for distribution, please drop them in to “Next to Nature” in the Navan Town Centre.

Businesses could start a “Nourish” day once a month when staff could drop the goods into a box and a member of the Nourish team will collect them. Posters and leaflets will be provided explaining how the joy of giving works.
